Privacy Policy
A Decent Remote · Effective June 12, 2026
A Decent Remote ("the app") is a TV remote control app for iPhone. This policy explains what information the app handles and why. The short version: there are no accounts, we don't know who you are, and we never sell data.
Information stored on your device only
To control your TVs, the app stores pairing details locally on your iPhone (in the iOS Keychain): your TVs' network addresses, names, models and pairing keys. This information never leaves your device except as described below, and is deleted when you remove your TVs from the app.
Local network access
The app talks directly to TVs on your own Wi-Fi network to discover and control them. This traffic stays on your network. iOS asks for your permission before the app can do this.
Usage analytics
The app uses Google Firebase Analytics to understand how the app is used so we can improve it. This includes events such as which remote features are used, your TV's brand, device model, OS version, and an anonymous app identifier. It never includes anything you type, your name, or your precise location. Firebase's own privacy practices are described at firebase.google.com/support/privacy.
Diagnostics
To fix connection problems, the app sends technical diagnostic logs to the developer. These can include your TV's brand, model and connection traces, and your iPhone model and iOS version. Diagnostics never include the content of anything you type with the remote keyboard (only that text was sent, and its length).
Purchases
Subscriptions and the lifetime unlock are processed entirely by Apple. We never see your payment details. Purchase receipts are validated on your device.
What we don't do
- No accounts, no sign-up, no email collection.
- No selling or sharing of data with advertisers.
- No tracking across other apps or websites.
- No collection of what you watch.
Who is responsible (data controller)
The data controller for the limited data described above is Klaus Jakobsen, Denmark, reachable at devjakobsen@gmail.com. Analytics and diagnostics are processed on the legal basis of legitimate interest (improving and supporting the app); they contain no directly identifying personal information.
Your rights (EU/GDPR)
If you are in the EU/EEA you have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict processing of personal data concerning you, to object to processing, and to data portability. Because the app has no accounts, we usually cannot link any stored data to you; if you contact us with the relevant details we will do what is technically possible. You also have the right to complain to a supervisory authority - in Denmark, Datatilsynet (datatilsynet.dk).
Data retention
Diagnostic logs are kept only as long as needed to investigate problems. Analytics data is retained by Firebase per its standard retention settings and is not personally identifiable to us.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
Your choices
You can deny or revoke Local Network access in iOS Settings at any time (the app can't control TVs without it). To request deletion of diagnostic data, contact us at the address below.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with an updated effective date.
